Do high-speed spindles have to maintain a higher speed when in use?
  • Whether the spindle runs at a higher speed should be determined by the tool diameter, the type of cutting tool (HSS, carbide, coating), and the material of the object to be cut.
  • The spindle can be processed at a lower speed; for example, an 18,000-rpm air-cooled spindle works at 8,000 rpm, but the spindle maintains the rated power and rated speed to release the full potential of the spindle. It is recommended to keep the rated power (speed) for processing
Does the high-speed spindle need to be balanced?
  • High-speed CNC router spindles need dynamic balancing very much, and imbalance will impose destructive vibration levels on the spindle. And, to make matters worse, the level of vibration force increases with the speed. The vibration force may not be serious for low-speed spindles with a speed below 10K.
  • However, excessive vibration can lead to poor surface finish, rapid tool wear, and spindle bearing damage for high-speed spindles.
    The spindles have been inspected and balanced before leaving the factory. It is recommended that customers maintain and check them frequently in future processing operations to avoid imbalance caused by wear of the spindle during day-to-day work.
  • Therefore, if you are using a spindle that runs at speeds exceeding 10K, you must check the balance of the tool. This will result in better parts, longer tool life and a healthy spindle.
